For this “branch” of my podcast, I’ll be interviewing individuals in the Tattoo world! I’m very excited about this segment, as I spent the larger part of my adult life as a tattooer. I owned and worked at Powerhouse Tattoo in Montclair NJ for decades. I’ve got inside insights, and think like an artist and shop owner, so excited to see how these episodes go! Listen to my chat with Vyvyn Lazonga here!
My first featured guest is Vyvyn Lazonga! She has been tattooing since the 1970’s and has a wonderful densely saturated colorful style, that for the most part, works with the contours of the human body. She is immensely talented, and works out of Seattle at Madame Lazonga’s Tattoo. In addition to being the first woman in the US to open her own tattoo shop, she also was the first artist to start transformation work on mastectomy scars decades ago, and she continues to do a lot of that work today! Here are a couple of images of her work, taken from her website.
